Title IX's Fight Against Women's Inferiority In Athletics on Trinity Campus
The words “too strong for a woman” changed the course of women’s sports history and society. Bernice Sandler was discriminated against with these words, which brought to light the lack of protection women within higher education had against sex discrimination (Smith, 2011). This lead to a reform of sport towards equality for women in sports, which began with Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 (Smith, 2011). After years of reform of the sex discrimination issue within other aspects of commercial life, the pressure was on for improvements of discrimination within higher education, and therefore, associated athletics. This changed binary sex roles as society knew them and faced much backlash because of this (Holland et al., 1979). Title IX provided a space for women in sports at a federal level, and the athletics of Trinity University adjusted, as well.
Tom Gerhardt: The All-SCAC Pioneer
Trinity men's basketball team was conferenceless for a number of years before joining the Collegiate Athletic Conference in the 1989-1990 season. In Trinity's first season in the NCAA DIII conference, junior Tom Gerhardt made All-CAC team with his superb play that year. This exhibit looks back on his playing career (including his remarkable junior season) and reflects on what it ultimately meant for future Tiger basketball players.
Trinity Baseball -Early 1970s
The Trinity baseball team was loaded in the 1970s, with perhaps the most talent that has ever come through San Antonio. They won lots of games, and finished 16th in the 1972 poll at the end of the year.

At the beginning of the 1980s, Trinity Football was rumored to be on the verge of extinction. This exhibit examines the grassroots efforts made by Trinity students and the lack thereof an administrative effort made to permeate fandom throughout the Trinity community.
Trinity Men's Baseball Champions, 2016
This site follows the path of the 2016 Trinity Baseball team to the National Championship. The Tigers won the NCAA Division III Baseball National Championship against Keystone College on May 31, 2016. With a 44-7 win-loss record they set a new conference record for most wins in a season, beating out the previous record from 1999. 2016 was the second consecutive trip to the DIII world series made by the Tigers and the championship became the fifth of its kind in Trinity team-sport history.
Trinity Men's Basketball 1968-69
This exhibit explores the success of the 1968-69 Trinity men's basketball team and what made them so successful. The 1969 Team was likely the best in school history. Competing at the Divison 1 level in the Southland Conference, they finished with a 19-5 record and qualified for the NCAA tournament.
Trinity Tennis in the 1960s and 70s: A Historic American Sporting Dynasty
This page is going to serve to show the dominance of Trinity Tennis in the 1960s and 70s. This dominance came as the result of an extremely deep team. Though there were numerous superstars, the ability of every single member of the team to win big matches consistently was critical. This dynasty is comprable to many of the most historic American sporting dynasties, such as the current Alabama football squad, the New England Patriots, and more recent Golden State Warriors. This era was very impressive for a college tennis team, and this exhibit serves to show how impressive they were, and how depth of talent played the biggest role in this success.
