The entirety of Newman’s DIII coaching career with both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams saw 31 NCAA appearances, 29 SCAC championships, nine players (five women, four men) claiming individual ITA National Championships, 51 players (27 men and 24 women) earning All-American accolades, and Newman himself being awarded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Coach of the Year three times (Trinity University Athletics). His impact on the program is difficult to understate. He built the program from the ground up and catapulted the Tigers into the national spotlight. Even when it was time to step down at the end of his coaching career in 2008, Newman felt compelled to remain involved. He transitioned to Director of Tennis where he remains today and his influence can still be felt.

Newman continues to be involved as the Director of Tennis for the University. After his resignation from the head coach position, he was determined to keep contributing to the program. Most notably, he initiated the renovation of the tennis center on Trinity's campus in 2011. The aptly named Butch Newman Tennis Center still stands as a testament to his impact in the lives of many student-athletes at Trinity. Today, Newman still runs things behind the scenes for the tennis teams. You can find him at every home match cheering on the Tigers and giving back to the kids who's shoes he was once in.
