What did you enjoy about this project?
I enjoyed the research process of this project, looking for small details within the Special Collections was time-consuming but rewarding.
What surprised you about this project?
It surprised me that though there was a presence of female athletes on campus all the way back in the early 1900s, there was not reform until late in the 1900s.
What was the most challenging aspect of the project, and how did you manage it?
What was most challenging was tracking down people to interview. Interviews were a requirement but I was not able to get anyone to respond to my queries for information.
If you could start over, what would you do differently?
I would have picked a more precise time period to focus on as there was an overload of sources to pick through, though there was very minute information.
What did you learn about history and/or the historical process through this project?
I learned a lot of abstract things about history through this project, mostly its slow moving nature in regards to progress. Progress for women in sports has been slow moving and still has a long way to go, but it was interesting to track its movement through the years, especially on Trinity campus.
What did you learn through this project that can be applied to life outside the classroom?
I learned a lot about a topic that I'm very passionate about, feminism, as well as the lengths that progress takes over time. It is not enough for just one person to be passionate about a cause, there needs to be presence behind it for it to go anywhere. Passion must be mixed with force for anything to happen, as seen through attempts made by female athletes on Trinity campus.
