Reflection

What did you enjoy about this project?

I enjoyed this project because it let me research something I was passionate about. I was able to talk to the people who put Trinity on the map and learn how they were effected by Trinity. The history that Trinity has makes me so much more appreciative for the opportunity that I’ve been given and makes me want to carry on the exceptional reputation of Trinity Tennis.

What surprised you about this project?

I was suprised about how much information was available in our own library. Special collections was very helpful for finding information. I was also surprised with how the interview process went and how much information I got.

What was the most challenging aspect of the project, and how did you manage it?

The most challenging aspect was the interview process. It was difficult to get in contact with some of the team members. The only thing I really could do was keep contacting them. That process was frustrating but was also very rewarding.

If you could start over, what would you do differently?

I would most likely start the research process earlier. The information I got was extremely beneficial but I feel like I could have dug a bit deeper. What I did find was that the research element took the most collective work because I had to search through countless sources.

What did you learn about history and/or the historical process through this project?

I learned about how the aspect of team is like having a family. Butch Newman enjoyed his time playing at Trinity but really enjoyed how he and his teammates came together and formed a second family. I learned that history allows me to appreciate the past so much more, appreciate the ones who came before me.

What did you learn through this project that can be applied to life outside the classroom?

I think the interview process was beneficial because it forced me to extract information in a rather uncinventional way. Talking to people and listening to their version of history is the best way to learn about what happened in the past.
