Spirits were high when senior weekend rolled around for an at-home series against school-wide rivals, Texas Lutheran. As the final home series for the senior-laden team, the weekend drew a crowd of family, friends, and fans to witness an upsetting 1-2 series. The team was disappointed by the upset, but took the lesson it offered them further into the season. Chris Tate, 2016 Junior and left-hand pitcher, recalled, “That series, we realized that as a team you are only as good as your performance that day and that yesterday is in the past...it seemed like we all realized that if we were going to win, it would be because of the fact that we played for the name on the front of the jersey and for our teammates, not ourselves”. Head Coach, Tim Scannell also remembers the shift in gear after senior weekend: “All of a sudden there was a whole new resolve as to how they went about their daily work and preparation to compete”. The new resolve was a successful one: the 2016 Tigers never lost another game.
