The Move to Division III

President Calgaard was a strong believer in Division III and he wanted student-athletes to be successful both on and off the court (King, 2018). Dr. Calgaard also wanted to ensure that everyone was treated equally, and he believed a big part of that was not giving athletic scholarships to student-athletes. President Calgaard wanted to raise the academic quality of the students at Trinity, which made it difficult to continue to field Division I programs (Schweitzer, 2018).
