Lee Roy I

Though today the name Lee Roy is inseparable from Trinity University, there was a time when having a tiger as the school’s mascot was little more than an idea. By bringing Lee Roy to campus and introducing him to both the school and the community, Trinity was able to establish a new sense of school spirit and pride that would define the university for nearly twenty years. Many of the traditions seen today on campus began during this time and served to establish Trinity in San Antonio after the university’s moves between different locations. The original Lee Roy may have only served for nine years, but his impact on the campus community remains seen today. By unifying the campus behind the mascot, Trinity was able to use Lee Roy to establish a lasting legacy of school pride, creating enduring traditions in the process.
