Conclusion

Trinity University had a powerhouse Division 1 program, but the school decided to do away with the big time program and compete at the Division 3 level. There were many people that were against the decision to switch divisions, but it was not a bad decision in the end. Toward the end of the years of the Division 1 program, the team became mostly made up of foreign players. This became a problem for the program as the foreign players never came back to support the program after their years with the team. The program was struggling with the lack of financial support and was losing its power. The mix of foreign players from different countries and some American players made for a difficult team dynamic. There was no team chemistry because no one could communicate or bond and it hurt the program. After the division switch, the program built back up to a powerhouse in Division 3. The program also had more support from alumni to help the team flourish. Butch Newman, who was a player for the Tigers in Division 1 and also coached Division 1, said that his favorite memories were from the Division 3 team. That shows that the Division 3 program was special and that the switch to Division 3 did not hurt the program and was beneficial to the University.
