Like A Woman Giving Birth

Since retiring from the NFL, Upshaw has remained a humble man. He gives credit to God for his good speed, strength, and physical condition. 

“You know, a lot of people look at a lineman and they say, ‘oh, man, you gotta be some kinda animal to get down there and beat on each other like that.’ But it’s just like a women giving birth. Everybody says, “That’s a great accomplishment: she must be really beautiful.” And I do too — I think it’s something that’s an act of God, that’s unreal. But, she hasn’t done nothing that she wasn’t built for... you see the strain, but that's what I'm built for” (Messner, 2007, p. 95-96).
