Starting up the Women's Track Team
As a recrational runner, Peggy initally had no intention of starting a team. Through a connection she made at Trinity, a physical education teacher named Shirley Rushing encouraged Peggy to start the women's track team. She constantly saw Peggy running around the track and told her “if you love running so much then why don’t you start a track team?”
Peggy initally didn't know what Title IX was, but with the help of Rushing she worked to create the team and get the assistant coach of the football team, Coach Davis to coach them on the side. Peggy Kokernot gave all of the credit to Shirley Rushing, but the both of them wokred collaboratively to get the team up and running.
