Title IX and Varsity Sports
As Title IX started firing up female athletes across the country in the years following its implentation, female athletes at Trinity began taking it upon themselves to demand what athletic access they thought they deserved. In 1974 there were many requests to Trinity University for a women's Track and Field team. There were many steps that needed to occur for this to happen, but over time the dedication of these athletes, and the enactment of Title IX resulted in the first official varsity female track team coming to be.
Since that team emerged, many female teams followed at Trinity, and now male and female teams at Trinity are 100% equitable- according to Title IX Director and Women's Volleyball Coach, Julie Jenkins.
