Clarence Mabry: A Second Father
Clarence Mabry helped start Butch Newman's love for tennis at San Pedro park. Mabry had a vision to start a tennis program at the collegiate level at Trinity University. He was working on doing that at the same time he was instilling hard work into Newman at San Pedro park (Briggs, 1986). Coach Mabry acted as a second father to Mr. Newman due to Newman having a difficult childhood relationship with his father. Mabry wanted the best for Newman as well as all of his players (Newman, 2017).
