Trinity Career
Mr. Newman began a successful career in 1962; however, he played behind the top two amateur players in the world. "I gained a lot of wins in my first two years here because I played number 3 or 4 behind some great players" (Newman, 2017). Newman became the first Trinity tennis All-American in 1963, joining the great Chuck McKinley. He became a two time All-American in 1965 following a spectacular career. Newman amounted the best singles career with a 53-2 record during his 1962-65 trek. He made it to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1963 & 1965 (trinitytigers.com).
