"Don't Show Them That it Bothers You"

Being raised in an era where it is often taught to just ignore incidences of discrimination and offer no counter in return, Darsh was disciplined; Don’t show them that it bothers you. Darsh admits that the one thing that he wishes he could change would be the way he responded to the uncomfortable moments of discrimination. When his teammates looked to him for guidance in how to react to these negative judgments directed at him, Darsh recalled feeling honored that some of the best players in the league were looking to him for leadership. However, he always ended up being the one comforting his teammates by expressing that nothing needed to be said in return, that he was used to it, and that it was okay. “If I could change one thing, I wouldn’t have let them think it was okay. It’s not okay. Maybe letting it be uncomfortable for everyone would have been better” (Singh, D. 2018).
