It's "Sick" not "Seek"
Sikh: the religion and identification of my new friend Darsh. It is pronounced like the word “sick” not “seek” (Marrapodi 2018). In addition to placing greater value on developing personal relationships prior to conforming to the common stereotypical views irrationally placed on an individual, simple acts such as learning the correct pronunciation of a word that someone identifies with might be a good start. In just a little under an hour of speaking with Darsh, I became a fan of his. Not simply because of his accomplishment as a basketball player, but the way he inspired me to think about a historical event like his own in a different way. In writing this narrative and spending time reflecting, I hope I have begun to embody some of his values, and have gotten a little bit closer to #Be[ing]likeDarsh. I challenge you, as a reader of this narrative, to do the same.
