Darsh Singh's Trinity jersey sits in the Smithsonian Museum

Darsh Singh was the first ever NCAA basketball player to play with a turban. Because of this feat, his number thirty-two jersey has made its way to a Smithsonian museum exhibit, and a breakthrough social media campaign known as “#BelikeDarsh” held its own on many feeds. Both have drawn great attention to an event that took place over a decade ago. This rise in fame years after the event brings light to the amount of influence that social media has on the ability to influence history as well as the reoccurring pattern of history often only becoming significant history years after it has occurred. “We have a joking relationship about his basketball career,” (Singh, S. 2018) stated Simran Singh, Darsh’s older brother by two years, who also attended Trinity at the time. People would say that Darsh’s career peaked years after he retired from basketball, as he was never the “all-star” on the team. At the time, no one, including Darsh, knew what a great accomplishment would come of his decision to walk-on to the Trinity University basketball team.
