Following the increasing success of the athletic program, Trinity began to grow its dominance as a program and assert itself as a powerful athletic force. The Trinity University athletic page reveals, through multiple destinations throughout the website, that the Tigers experienced radically improved athletic achievements in comparison to the decade of the 80s. Along with team accomplishments, there are also multiple individual achievements that solidify the proposition of the forward shift in the program. Some examples include Michael Burton, Trinity quarterback in the late 90s. Burton eventually went on the break virtually every football record at Trinity while also winning the title of the best player in Division III football, known as the Melberger Award. When asked, Burton claimed that the winning tradition of Trinity and the consistent presence of conference championships was one of the main motivators in his decision to attend Trinity (Burton). Burton was also a dual-sport athlete, playing on the baseball diamond and experiencing significant success there as well. Burton is a prime example of the influence of early success contributing to benefited recruitment for Trinity. Along with Burton, the football team also boasted the Division III football coach of the year in Steve Mohr.
