Spurring Change

It is no secret that Chuck McKinley and Felix Thruston were successful athletes both at Trinity University and beyond, but their most signficant accomplishments happened off the court.

Chuck was intent on changing the way that athletes thought about sport. He was determined to convince others that their mindset was the most important aspect of the game. He had learned, during his time at Wimbledon and dealing with his brain tumor diagnosis, that playing a sport was a blessing and should not be taken for granted. He wanted to show others that sport is much more than just winning or losing, but an opportunity to learn and grow as individuals and to use the lessons from sport to become better and more equipped individuals.

Felix Thruston used his love and dedication to sport to spur a different type of change on Trinity University's campus. His experience with the athletic department allowed him to see a different side of Trinity. He was able to see the instituionalized racism of the university and how it played out in athletics. He spent much of his time outside of playing basketball working to implement long-lasting and impactful changes regarding equality.
