Thruston was extremely successful during his four years at Trinity University. His most notable accomplishments are being a four-year starter, having an impressive 20 rebounds in a single game, being named to All-Southland Conference First Team and All-region Second team, and having the honor of being ranked 18th in NCAA scoring for the 1970-71 years. His best Trinity statistics are as follows: he ranks second in career Trinity points (1563) and fourth in career rebounds (897).

But it wasn't just his statistics that made him so impressive. His love for the sport, dedication to the game, and sportmanship are what ultimately got him a spot on the Trinity University Hall of Fame list.
