Gretchen Rush during her NCAA doubles championship winning season

Rush made quite the splash upon arrival at Trinity. Just days after she showed up as a freshman she received a call from New York informing her that she had qualified to compete in the U.S. Open, where she played her way into the quarterfinals (Trinitonian, 1982). She continued to have incredible success throughout her entire career at Trinity. Rush won the NCAA Doubles Championship in 1983, and finished second in double in both 1985 and 1986 (Trinity Athletics). She played singles as well and finished runner up in both 1985/86. Coming into the 1985 season she was already a two-time all-American, as well as an Olympian, and she helped the Tigers earn their preseason ranking of sixth in the nation (Trinitonian, 1985).

Rush was an All-American all fours years of her collegiate career, and carried her succes into her pro career as well.

Trinity has players awarded the honor of All-American every year, but none have been as dominant as Rush since she played here.
