One Step Closer to Achieving the Goal

With the support of Norris and the athletic council, the proposal for granting the informal cross country club varsity status was placed in front of the university administration by the fall of 1987. During this semester, Norris also found a coach named Olga Ortega Bellg who was happy to volunteer her knowledge to help guide the group of Trinity runners while they awaited a decision from the administration (Crow, 1987). Up to this point it is clear that this process was started and driven by a select few students who wanted the chance to run competitively in college and once the students had done all that they could, the future of distance running at Trinity was put into the hands of the university administration.
