Before the Change

Before this decision was even discussed, other issues that led to this were taking place. An article from the Trinitonian on December 5, 1980 by John Benson, discusses how in the 1970s, Trinity was planning on dropping both baseball and football entirely to strengthen other sports like basketball. The tennis program was still dominating in division one but other sports within Trinity athletics were suffering from the change in divisions. Trinity athletics were not performing to high enough standards after the switch to division three. Ultimately, they decided to keep their sports and try to get back to a winning tradition.
