Conclusion

The tennis program has come along way from where it was before and during the time of the decision to switch from division one to division three. At first, many people throughout the university and the city were discouraged by the decision. Opinion articles were released and statements were made stressing the importance of keeping the tradition of the tennis program alive and trying to emphasize the golden era of success in Trinity Tennis with the likes of Butch Newman, Dick Stockton and Bob Mckinley; where tennis athletes at Trinity were turning professional and mostly thinking about themselves and their tennis careers. The decision to switch divisions totally changed that perspective. Coaches were recruiting bright and talented players who wanted to put student and their studies in front of athlete and their tennis. This philosophy established a program that develops not only fantastic athletes but enthusiastic students and people. This is what the tennis program has become in recent decades and what it will strive for in the future.
