Collegiate Career

Bob began his college tennis career in 1969 at Trinity University, in San Antonio, Texas.  He originally did not want to attend Trinity in fear of being held to a higher standard because of his brother's success.  With an offer to Rice on the table, Bob took a visit to Trinity becasue he felt like he owed his brother at least that.  After stepping on campus, he immediately fell in love with the school, and the school loved him back.

Bob's career was one for the record books.  He was a four-time All-American (1969-1972), served as captain for three of his four years, and played #3 on the 1972 Championship team.

The 1972 Championships, held in Georgia, was a display of Trinity's dominance. There was a total of 185 players in the tournament, and four of the final eight were from Trinity.  The championship match featured two Tiger Netters, Dick Stockton and Brian Gottfried.  After defeating his teammate, Stockton and the Trinity Tigers became the first team in the last 13 years to win the title, other than USC or UCLA.
