Swing and a Miss

One of the most embarassing moments of his professional career came in his match at centre court at Wimbledon in 1973.  Facing off with the number one British player at the time, Roger Taylor, Bob let his nerves take over.  On the second serve of the match, Taylor, a left handed player, served the ball to Mckinley, who proceeded to completely miss the ball.  The left handed serve was much harder to return for Bob, who had faced mainly right handed players during his career.

"I can still hear the oooo's and ahhh's of the crowd after missing the return.  I was so embarassed that I just wanted to crawl into a hole and escape it all"

McKinley put up a good fight, but could not recover from the whiff.  He lost the match in four sets (6-1, 5-7, 8-6, 5-7). Although it was embarassing, he will always remember that moment for the good; playing at centre court at the Wimbledon Championships.
