Much of Bob's success came from the incredible bond he had with his doubles partner, Dick Stockton.  Dick and Bob played doubles together for the majority of their careers.  Their ability to play together was a direct result of their styles of play, which were completely opposite one another.  They were able to use two different approaches to the game simultaneously to dominate opponents.

Bob had a finese approach to the game, usually playing up front and was more of the set-up guy.  Dick, on the other hand, was the power player.  He usually played in the back and waited for the right moment to put opponents away with one swing.  Their ability to work together and use their individual skills to their advantage was the driving force behind the dynamic duo.
