In the Fall of 2004 the men played the first half of their dual season, competing in four events rather than their originally scheduled three.  Looking back at the halfway point of the season Carla said that she believed “that the extra tournament really helped us out,” and that to that point she was pleased with how the team had competed to that point.

Moving into the spring the men's team continued their strong play earning a 3rd place finish at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Invitatinal, and appeared to be riding a wave of momentum as they approached conference Championships, little did Coach Spenkoch or her team know what was on the horizon.
