Coach Carla Spenkoch

Carla Spenkoch was named the Director of Golf and head coach of both the men’s and women’s golf team in September of 1998. Carla’s golf career was storied before she ever even set foot on Trinity’s campus. Coach Spenkoch attended the University of Texas at Austin as a member of the women’s golf team and graduated in 1977 with a degree in physical education. In her time at U.T. Austin Carla was named captain of her college team (1975), and in 1976 she returned not only to lead her team as a senior, but her out standing play lead her to be voted most valuable player for her team. 

Following her time at University of Texas she moved on to play professionally for a short time. However, Carla found her calling in coaching as she became a “Class A” professional in the LPGA and began teaching at the Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio, and was named one of the top Texas women’s instructors by Texas Golf for Women Magazine. All of her previous experience as a student athlete, professional golfer, and patience as a swing coach, were all aspects that lend her to being the perfect fit for Trinity’s golf program, as she would become the first female head coach of men’s program in Trinity history as she was named the new head coach for both the men’s and women’s golf teams in the fall of 1998. 

Carla was the instrumental peice in creating a standard of excellence for Trinity men's golf. In 2005 she lead a team consisting of two of her star recruits, Simon Thompson and Travis Holt, to a SCAC confernce championship win, while simultaneously bringing her women's team to a 2nd place finish in conference the same year. 

Carla's hard work and leardership skills catepaulted trinity into the National spotlight as her program was ranked top 5 in the nation for academics first university, along side Ivy League powerhouses like Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Brown. Having Completed her 17th season at Trinity she is currently the Women's Golf Head Coach. Carla has proven further success leading her women's squad to a dominating era for Trinity golf winning 2 of the last 3 Conference Championships, winning in both 2014 and 2016 seasons.
