One of these players was Michael “Mike” Scruggs, who participated in the team in all four years of his college career starting in 1973. In 1975, Mike Scruggs becomes captain of the team as a junior and is the scoring leader with an average of 179. Scruggs’ role in the team that year was vital as only two original players from last year’s team remained for the 1975 season. Not only was it his first year as captain but he also had the responsibility to lead a team of unproven players while maintaining Trinity’s scoring record. He aided the team in securing competitive standings and finishes such as the great third place finish in the 1975 season. Yet while the team’s overall success might not have demonstrated how talented of a bowler Mike Scruggs was, his individual accomplishments were more reflective of his bowling skills. Among his multiple wins, Scruggs was able to become the state champion in both the singles and doubles category. In the following 1976 season he was chosen as President of the Texas Intercollegiate Bowling Conference. He definitely left his mark as one of the most talented bowlers to have played for Trinity but there have been other players who have left a significant mark in such a trail blazing fashion.
