Baseball Through the Years
Baseball has seen a lot of changes throughout history such as the implementation of, "Home run races and the introduction of interleague play" (Morais, 2018). The addition of home run races led to players like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig make baseball magical. This competition between two teammates not only helped baseball in views but ultimately made the team better. The competition between the two men lead to major aw of the game. What is meant by that is, "Youths would dash out of the AP and UP ticker every two of three minutes shouting, 'Ruth hit one! Gehrig hit another one'" (Frommer, 2015). Americans tuned into the home run race between these two men because it unified a bond of baseball. You either supported Babe or Gehrig! Here at Trinity there might be inter-team competition, which was started by these two greats; which ultimately strengthened baseball. So much so that Hillerich and Bradley a manufacture of Louisville Sluggers, "Supplied their dealers with posters that had places for fans to mark homers hit by the two men and track their progress" (Frommer, 2015). They transformed baseball in a way that impacted all of baseball including, Trinity University.
Trinity baseball although in a different time has been impacted by these changes. The races of home runs upped the competition; both between teammates and between players throughout the league. Teams in college are ranked in all different categories. Who has the better batting average, most home runs, stolen bases, saves, strikeouts, wins, overall team ranks (SCAC Leaders, 2018). Trinity has been impacted by the introduction of races such as the homeruns, leading to them becoming a program who looks to compete and be on top.
