Reflections

1.) What did you enjoy about this project?

I really enjoyed the historical research. I thought that it was very interesting searching through the history of the baseball program, along with learning how it has maintained a powerhouse over the years. I also enjoyed this topic because I was able to interview my uncle who played under Coach Scannell. It was cool to see how much of an impact a coach made on my Uncle Patrick as well as my current coach, Cameron Hill.

2.) What surprised you about this project?

This project surprised me in the sense that I was able to first-hand realize what it takes to research history in depth on a topic. Then take that research and turn it into a narrative with historical references as well as primary sources including three great interviews. With that being said, the surprise was realizing how great this project was for bettering my knowledge and skills.

3.) What was the most challenging aspect of the project, and how did you manage it?

The most challenging part of the project for me was figuring out how to combine everything I wanted to say. I love baseball and how it unites so many people. So I was able to manage that difficulty by making and outline and setting up a historical narrative I am proud of.

4.) If you could start over, what would you do differently?

If I would start this project over I would not necessarily do anything different. Maybe I would add more information that I did not use because It did not exactly fit into what I was saying. I would possibly try and go back and add those points making my topic broader with more sub points. All in all, I am really happy with how this turned out.

5.) What did you learn about history and/or the historical process through this project?

I learned how much time you need to put into the historical process. I found it fascinating how in depth this process goes. Brining together all aspects of the time you are researching to create something intriguing.

6.) What did you learn through this project that can be applied to life outside the classroom?

What I have learned trough this project and what I will take with me outside of the classroom is the skills I have obtained. What I mean by this is I have developed skills from this historical process such as going to every aspect of the baseball team. I got to look at the evolution of team uniforms through old team pictures, I was able to interview two former players who added to my knowledge of this great program. I was also able to look through the Special Collections in the library and see old press releases. I will be able to take all of these research skills with me for when I go into other classes or a profession where I need to research any topic.
