Gene Norris' peak of success as the head football coach came in 1976 when the Tigers won the TIAA Championship. Not since 1955 had the the Trinity Tigers won a football conference crown. In the championship game the Tigers rushed for 274 yards, and passed for another 101. Trinity also lead the entire conference in both total offense and defense, thanks in large part to Norris' coaching.
