Golf team in 1971

In 1971, Gene Norris led the Trinity golf team to another successful year, finishing second place in the Southland Conference Tournament, only finishing behind Lamar Tech. Players such as Dave Williams, Mark Krause, and Mike Halpern had terrific seasons under Norris' guidance. This was basically the peak of success for the golf team since next year would be the year that Trinity made the switch to Division 3. Prior to 1971, Trinity offered athletic scholarships to many students, which is one of the main reasons that the golf team was so successfu. After the transition all the scholarships stopped causing a decline in athletics for the next few years.
