2000's - New Millenium, Same problems

With the new millenium, it brought many other ethnic groups in the United States which would get more attention. There were many who received lots of hate from white supremacists. One of these groups is the Middle Eastern/ Central Asian group. There are many nationalities within this group and one of them is the Indian Sikh. Darsh Singh, a Trinity alum, belongs within this group. When I interviewed him, he told me that every road game someone would scream "Osama bin Laden" or "Go back to your country" or "F$*# you terrorist" (Villanueva, 2019). Even on campus, people would not acknowledge him by his name as he was sometimes called "turban". Even with all of this in his experience, he persevered and went on to lead the basketball team to the Elite 8 in one of his years and now his jersey sits in the Smithsonian Museum as he was the first Sikh player to play in the NCAA. That is a reminder that anyone can do anything they propose themselves to if they have the right mindset like Darsh.
