70's - Latino experience

I interviewed Ernest Guzman '77 and from his answers I found out that he grew up in the era in which the use of Spanish in the public school system was severely reprimanded so that led to people using it less and less. That led to not speaking Spanish as much because of a fear of bad consequences. However, his experience was a little different because not only was he a Hispanic, but he was also a Vietnam veteran attending school through the GI bill. In my opinion, he is to be considered an important athlete in Trinity’s history because not only was he a captain, but he was also a veteran and to come back from the war and still participate in Trinity athletics at a high level is worthy of admiration.
