Even before 1973, on September 15, 1972, Thurman Adkins, the Assistant Dean of Students at the time, placed a memorandum in mailbox #341, assigned to Bill Leighton, a student who was supposedly running FCA on campus. In the memorandum, Adkins expressed his approval for the group on campus. However, he also noted that it was not officially a recognized group on campus according to the Student Handbook. Adkins had originally noticed FCA was active on campus after reading an article in the September 13, 1972 edition of On Trinity Hill inviting students to attend their first meeting of the fall.
