FCA Files with Student Activities

Even though the original memorandum was delivered on September 15, 1972, the organization did not file with Student Activities until the spring of 1973. At the time of its first birth as an organization, football senior Mike Scott served as the president, while junior tennis star Howard Butt III, grandson of the H-E-B Grocery Stores founder, Howard Butt, Sr., served as the vice president. Interestingly, about three decades later, the H.E.B. Foundation Camp in Leakey, Texas, owned by Butt’s family, would host the “Weekend of Warriors” sports camp organized by Still Water Ministries, a 501(C)(3) non-profit started by Matt Moehrig, the 1998 FCA president.

The original FCA from 1973 was also sponsored by Ray Freeman while John Dorrer was both secretary and treasurer. They met every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at 127 Princess Pass, located off campus but still conveniently close to the Prassel dorms.
