Turkey Trot

One of the most significant things Potter implemented in the intramurals program was the addition of the Turkey Trot. In his first year as the intramural director Potter decided to turn the cross country run into something much more exciting: The Turkey Trot (Lancers Run, 1967).The Turkey Trot is a several mile run across campus that brings all of the Trintiy community together. The change of the name and the promise of a 16-pound turkey to both the female and male winner, provided more excitement to the run and ultimately more of an incentive to win. Since then, the Turkey Trot has grown immensely and become a Trinity tradition. Students and staff come out every year to compete along side each other to win the turkey. This past year Trinity celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Turkey Trot indicating that it still remains as one of the most recognized and popular event that Trinity hosts. This is one of the numerous ways that Potter’s influence on Trinity is still around.
