The Intramural Outdoor Recreation Program Presents. 1984, October 5. The Trinitonian.

In 1984 Potter created the outdoor recreation program to provide an opportunity for students to adventure and sightsee (Memories, 2000). According to the Association of Outdoor Recreation, this same year in Bozeman, Montana the first National Conference devoted to outdoor recreation and education providers was held (Association, 2018). This signifies that Potter was aligned with the need for more outdoor recreation in educational settings. Potter acknowledged this need and provided an opportunity for Trinity students to have a place where they could explore. In the outdoor recreation program’s first year, trips included traveling to Guadalupe River State Park for the weekend (The Intramural, 1984) and even hiking in Big Bend State Park (IM Action, 1984). The O-Rec program Jim Potter created is still extremely popular amongst Trinity students.
