Title: Tracy Symons, an intramural athlete that was a member of Gamma Chi Delta. The Mirage. Date: 1981, May.

Tracy Smith-Symons became a Gamma in 1981 and the primary reason she even decided to join Greek life was because of the Gamma intramural teams. After starting off as a varsity softball player but quitting due to the time commitment, Smith decided to give intramural sports a try. When she first arrived at Trinity, she had no interest in joining Greek life at all - she only wanted to find a way to stay in shape and play sports. After being coerced by her roommates to 'rush', or go through the sorority recruitment process, she finally decided to give Greek life a try. Smith recalled that the competitiveness of Gammas is what drew her into the club, as well as their track record in regards to wins and losses. After joining Gammas, she started playing a ton of intramural sports, including basketball, softball, volleyball, water polo, and co-ed football. Smith emphasized the similarities between intramural sports and Greek life - both clubs give you the opportunity to meet new people but also participate in team-related activities, which really helps students feel at home.
