Intramural sports are a type of recreational sport, which were also offered during this time - hiking and canoe trips were available to students. Along with stress reduction, intramural sports also lead to higher grades, higher retention, and overall a higher satisfaction with the college experience (Sturts & Ross, 2013). By providing a plethora of sport opportunities, like water polo, flag football, basketball, and softball, Trinity was giving students the opportunity to grow outside of the classroom, whether it be socially, physically, or cognitively (Sturts & Ross, 2013). Trinity still offers all of these activities today, and many students take advantage of the intramural program.
