Reflection

What did you enjoy about this project?

For me the most enjoyable part of this project was getting the opportunity to interview Trinity alumni. It proved to be a difficult process but I feel like I came out with a stronger knowledge of the steps it takes to get an interview.

What surprised you about this project?

After creating a rough prompt of questions I would ask in my interviews, I was a little worried about the information I was going to receive. After the interviews, I was surprised by the amount of information and detail Mr. Drinen and Mr. Wagenbach were able to provide.

What was the most challenging aspect of the project, and how did you manage it?

As I said, the interview process was hard for me. I struggled finding anybody to interview but I made it through thanks to the help of Dr. Morais who coached me and led me down the path to find the contact information of those I interviewed.

If you could start over, what would you do differently?

To be honest, I would probably choose a different topic entirely. My topic was a difficult one to find information about because there were no articles that I could simply read through to figure out the information I needed about Trinity's team in 1992 and its relation to smokeless tobacco. Additionally, after it was all said and done and did finally get the information I needed, I was told the team was right back to dipping the next year so it was kind of a kick in the rear.

What did you learn about history and/or the historical process through this project?

I think this shows that nicotine addiction has always had prevelance, specifically in baseball.

What did you learn through this project that can be applied to life outside the classroom?

I feel like this was a good introductory project for myself to catch a glimpse of some of the real world. Having to find out how to contact people who went to Trinity over 20 years ago and then the fact that you had to be professional and respectful in return for information just seemed unique to me. I feel like those are valuable lessons to learn.
