In interviews with Drinen and Wagenbach, the team in 1992 was described as a good team overall with good speed but somewhat lacking in power. It was a young team; head coach Jeff Brown brought in a good core group of freshmen to mix with the few upperclassmen with conference tournament experience. These components led people to believe they were going to have a turnaround season from their disappointing breakdown in the first round of the conference tournament the season prior, but unfortunately that was not the case. However, both of the players interviewed stressed that they were a much better team than their record indicated. Wagenbach expressed that all of the time spent talking to each other in the dugout helped the team to get along great. Being one of the captains of the team helped him to instill the mentality that if a team is going to be successful, the team needs to have each others backs.
