During that season, Drinen and Wagenbach recalled there was a heightened sensitivity towards the use of smokeless tobacco. They knew the NCAA would place a ban on it in 1994 so the team came together to defy the odds. Instead of waiting for the ban, the team decided to make a pact to stop dipping. Neither Drinen nor Wagenbach remember who started the pact, but they both took part in it, as exemplary team captains would.
