The Mahler brothers had been living in San Antonio and chose Trinity in large part due to the fact that they could live at home and get home cooked meals every day (Mahler, 2018). Mickey ended up pitching for eight teams in the pros (Mickey Mahler, n.d). As a matter of fact, Mickey and Rick were able to pitch for the same team, the Atlanta Braves, in 1979. Coming from a small school, one would think that it would be a difficult transition to the show. However, Mickey never felt intimidated as he won 13 games in Triple A, and once he was called up he jokingly thought: “Geez, what took them so long”. In the bigs, he never had a standout, but he did have some great games, which he is very proud of (Mahler, 2018).

In the Majors, Mahler pitched from 1977 to 1986, for the Atlanta Braves, California Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers and the Toronto Blue Jays (Mahler, n.d). For the Tigers, he is currently third in career (28) and season wins (11), fourth in career earned run average (2.37) and third for single season strikeouts (118) and fifth for career punch-outs (279) (Pitching Records, 2018). According to his teammate Bill Daffin, Mickey was a hard thrower, but off the field was a goof-ball who was able to keep things light (Daffin, 2018; Batista, 2018).
