Off the Field

While the team was great on the field, it is important to also consider their lives outside of baseball at Trinity. Not many were in fraternities, but Paul Batista was in the Triniteers fraternity, and some others were a part of the Bengal Lancers (Batista, 2018; Hermes, 2018). Over the summer, most of the players would play in summer leagues, much like the current players do. Bubba Hermes said that Bill Daffin and Paul Stanley played in the Amateur Baseball World Series one year (Hermes, 2018). The team was very tight however, as they spent time at the brewery or fishing together (Hermes, 2018; Daffin, 2018). When they were in college, the drinking age was 18 so it was not abnormal for this to be a thing (Daffin, 2018).

To this day, the team still stays in touch. Within the past year, they organized a barbecue and all got together. The guys really enjoyed seeing each other (Mahler, 2018). Mickey Mahler spoke to me about how he cherishes the memories that they made at Trinity together. He said that some of the best days of his life were during his days as a Tiger (Mahler, 2018). Bill Daffin brought up an interesting point, in that they have all gone through life together. This had made their bond tight since as former teammates, they are there for each other (Daffin, 2018).
