Here is Daffin, a captain of the 1972 baseball team at Trinity.

On the offensive side, the leader of the Tigers was third baseman Bill Daffin. When I spoke with Paul Batista, a teammate of Daffin’s, Batista said that he was as good of a player as he ever played with (Batista 2018). Daffin’s career was filled with accolades including: 1972 First Team All American, 1970 Honorable Mention All American, and was named to the Southland Conference All Decade team (Southland Announces All Decade Baseball Team for 1970s, 2013; Billy Daffin, 2013). Daffin, born and raised in San Antonio, was recruited by the University of Texas to play baseball and football, as he played quarterback. Ultimately, he chose Trinity so he could focus on baseball, and went on to have his great career. While he never had the opportunity to sign professionally, there were plenty of people who had said that he was as good as anyone getting drafted (Daffin, 2018).

His career was filled with a plethora of accolades. When he was elected to the Trinity Hall of Fame, he placed 11th in career batting average, 9th in career hits and 3rd for triples in a season (Bill Daffin, n.d). While he has fallen in the categories, it is important to note that he did hold multiple records for decades after he was done at Trinity.
