1993 Baseball Players Forced to Miss Classtime

Primarily, since all of the teams in Trinity’s conference were located out of state, the traveling schedule and time away from classes was difficult.  Baseball players were forced to miss several days of classes, with almost every away conference series requiring them to leave on a Thursday.  He believes this extended time away had a large impact on the academics for many players. Athletes were forced to bring schoolwork with them on road trips and forcing them to do their work in the bus on the road trips.  In addition, missing class time also meant missing the lectures from Professors.  The players were left to rely on themselves to learn some of the course work on their own.

Bega compensated this by spending a lot of the time at school taking advantage of the Professors’ office hours as well as reading and re-reading the text books to teach himself the course curriculum.
