Initial Conference Expansion

King claimed he helped pave the way, along with other Athletic Directors for the newly formed Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, or “SCAC,” (the athletic conference Trinity is in now) by pushing for more schools in Texas to participate in Division III athletics and to join the conference. The year after King took over at Athletic Director, Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas joined the SCAC and immediately became Trinity’s main rival.  Southwestern University was an “NAIA” program before converting to Division III.  The NAIA is another sanctioning body that oversees college athletic programs similar to the NCAA.
